UPDATE #2: Thanks so much everyone for submitting your amazing entries!! I'm traveling this weekend so you can expect voting to begin this coming Tuesday. Late entries will be accepted until then, so you still got some time! :)
UPDATE: The deadline has been moved from August 31st to September 10th! Submit your entry by September 10th :)
Hey Jammers! Whew, I'm finally here again with the contest details. I'll try to keep it short and simple. c:
Have you ever wandered through Jamaa, looking at all of the shopfronts, and wondered what it might be like if they had NPC shopkeepers?
Well, that's what this creative contest is all about! In this contest, you'll choose one shop in the world of Jamaa, decide what kind of animal the shopkeeper is, name them, draw a picture of them, and describe their personality and likes/dislikes!
This contest came about because for some reason, I imagined that the Flag Shop should be run by a raccoon named Archie who sleeps a lot, likes eating popcorn, and wears a blanket made of sewn-together flag scraps. I was going to draw him as an example, but I'm reeeaaally tired today so you can just join me in imagining him xD
Submitting an entry for this contest will be pretty straightforward– it's a Google Form I made that is linked at the bottom of this post. You shouldn't have to be signed into a Google account to fill it out, but let me know if you have any issues with it!
There will be three winners, and they'll be anonymously chosen by vote during the week/s after the contest deadline on August 31st September 10th!
As for the prizes, I gathered together my rarest nonmember items that I'm comfortable giving away– including some rare prizes for AJPW players, too!
–––
Prizes for Animal Jam (Classic) players:
1st place - The artist of the character who gets the most votes will win: 1 Green Gecko Plushie, 1 Elephant Shoji Screen (black wolf variant), 1 Globe, and 1 Rectangular Coffee Table (green variant)2nd place - The artist of the character who gets the second most votes will win: 1 Rare Tiara (black and red variant), 1 Rare Guitar Rug (yellow and green variant), 1 Basic Healing Staff (yellow and green variant), and 1 Wood Lawn Chair
3rd place - The artist of the character who gets the third most votes will win: Rack of Clothing (variant with silver wings), 1 Rare Fall Butterfly Wings, 1 Tiger Plushie (rare-ish variant with sunglasses/necklace), Worn Blanket (dusty blue variant)
Prizes for AJPW players:
While I don't really play AJPW, I still have a good handful of items that have become uncommon since I joined around 2016. On the Google Form, you can select if you'd prefer AJPW or AJC prizes!
1st place - The artist of the character who gets the most votes will win: 1 Founders Trunk, 1 Rare Butterfly Painting
2nd place - The artist of the character who gets the second most votes will win: 1 Founders Helmet, 1 Rare Unicorn Horn
3rd place - The artist of the character who gets the third most votes will win: 1 Play Wild Backpack, 1 Panda Power Backpack

> Click here to go to the Google Form contest entry sheet! <
And this goes without saying, but no personal info is recorded– it's just the details you write down about your shopkeeper, the link to your drawing of the shopkeeper, and your AJC or AJPW username.
Remember that the deadline to enter the contest is AUGUST 31st SEPTEMBER 10th! After that day, voting will begin.
Alright, see you in Jamaa! You can let me know in the comments if you have any questions c:
WOW I FRICKING LOVE THIS CONTEST IDEA!
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to write another post, but I just can't find the right time or motivation, so I'm glad I can still be involved in the community without getting all the work done for a post heh.
But I think this is a super cute idea! Expect an entry from me in the near future :]
~popcorn
I'm glad! (>^-^)>
DeleteAnd aaa yeah, posting takes a lot of work. I'm likely not going to post until around August 31 just because I need to focus on getting ready for the new school semester to start.
This is SO COOL and such a great idea!!!! I am definitely entering!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!
DeleteSorry Doomy... I guess my bad dreams became true because just about all of my favorite websites have been blocked, including blogger, other jammer's blogs, furrypaws, and millions of games, including animal jam itself, amazon, wordpress, etc. I wish I could show you a screenshot. Thanks for supporting me all throughout my blogging until here. Good luck, and I may pop up every once in a while but please remember I can't post anymore or comment on my Dogo account, or even check up on your blog.
ReplyDelete~Dogo
P.S. I love you and I will always support your blog!
P.P.S. I don't even want my Chromebook anymore honestly after this. No advantages, only disadvantages >:(
The least you could do is make a shoutout or something on your blog and watch this nice youtube ajmv: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI29mBzSoRI
Oh no Dogo... I'm so sorry that happened, that's so frustrating :'(
DeleteYour support means so much to me and I hope that you can find a way to play your favorite games again. I understand your frustration– when I used to have a Chromebook for school, the fact that so many things were blocked even made it hard to do research for school sometimes.
I'll give you a shoutout in one of my next posts, and I wish you the best <3
ENTERING WOO WOO
ReplyDeleteYay!!
DeleteHey, could you move it to 10th of September? I’m kind of banned until Friday from the PC, so it would help a lot <3
DeleteVai, eplying from her iPad
I might do that actually– so far only two people have entered.
Deleteheads up that i'm gonna be submitting my entry late! i agree with vai asking for the deadline to be moved to the 10th... i need the extra time haha
ReplyDeleteJust edited the post, the deadline is officially extended ^^
DeleteHi Doomy! I’m new here… just wondering if we can enter more than once with different characters!!
ReplyDeleteHi there!! Nah, to keep things fair I'd prefer it to be one entry per person. Good question though ^^
DeleteThanks!
DeleteHi Doomy!!!!
ReplyDeleteI am really really excited for voting to begin, first of all. I LOVE THIS IDEA SO MUCH STILL
And also I am having trouble with Blogger. For some reason my followers gadget wont show up with my new theme along with some of my third-party HTML gadgets, I wonder if it's just not compatible with this one?
(also part of me is wondering, since the followers gadget got removed does it mean if you followed me you no longer see my posts in your reading list?)
Do you have any tips?
Thanks a ton!!!!
Hey Wild! I'm excited for voting too– it might begin sometime in the next three days cuz I'll be traveling. All of the entries I've got so far are soooo wonderful omg
DeleteAnd designing with Blogger has definitely become harder to work with, especially since the new update last year. I've done some experimenting with layouts and it does seem that the newer themes are sleek but a lot less customizable than the older ones.
You're probably correct that they're just not compatible, but it's also really annoying for people looking to follow your blog and not knowing how. Blogger hasn't been making PSAs about how to work with these things, so it takes a bit to figure out. To answer your other question though, I do still see your posts in my reading list!
So, what I might do in your situation is switch around through different Blogger themes to figure out which ones do show your gadgets. It might have to be that you go back to an older theme that supports more gadgets if that's most important to you. A lot of other people most likely have had the same problem as you, so you might find some fixes if you do some research maybe around Google forums.
I hope that helped ^^;
Feel free to ask any other Blogger related questions if you have any!
Hi! I'm back XD
DeleteThank you for everything! I did some research and found out apparently dynamic views is (?) from 2012, and I found an article from then and back then followers worked, apparently. Fascinating. I did some more research, and I've noticed a pattern: it seems that only the THIRD PARTY gadgets are missing. I think I read somewhere that followers gadget is technically third party and not google or blogger.
Do you have any ideas on how to fix this? Plan B is to switch back.
Unfortunately I've been driving myself a little insane with another problem: analytics. I've come back because I've had a massive drop in views and I have NO idea why. It started around Sept 5, so I suspect school, but do you have any idea why it happened? I'm actually just really concerned because I just posted a contest prep post, but so far only one person has responded and that's because I PMed them constantly.
I think I'm overthinking all of this? Sorry for all this nonsensical information and I'm really really really sorry for unloading all the blogger stress here!
~Wild
Hmm... maybe the drop in views is because you changed your blog's layout around that time? Or am I off..? I get drops in views randomly all the time and I usually don't know why. What's more confusing is when I randomly get bursts of views during a day while I'm on hiatus xD
DeleteGetting back to your first question/s, I think that Followers actually aren't third party because the widget itself is so blog posts appear in your Blogger dashboard. And yeah, the theme I use on my blog (Watermark) is also from around 2012, so I don't have problems with the Followers displaying.
Though I'm starting to think that your Followers widget not appearing is a bug not intentional from Blogger (and there are many bugs...). So, as you keep doing research, something you could do is make a separate blog to test layouts– there might be some HTML fixes you can do to make the Followers widget display. There are some things that I can do easier with a test blog than my own blog.
If you haven't already, you can search around here --> support.google.com/blogger/community?hl=en
The forum posts you find that are older than June 2020 will likely be the most helpful, because Blogger's user interface changed around then.
And please don't worry!! It's so hard to find guidance with Blogger layout problems these days. I've been here a while, so feel free to ask anything anytime and I hope I'll be able to help.
Oh man view bursts on hiatus days? That is WEIRD haha --
DeleteYes, I thought the drop in views was the blog layout but the view drop happened over a week (9 days?) after I changed the layout, so is that close or far?
Also, I made a test blog and I'll play with that. Thank you so much for all of your tips and help!!
Another question I have is any tips to get people to enter your contest? I have a contest prep form up but no one responded, so I wonder if I wasn't clear enough or something? I'm getting nervous that the post (2nd most recent on my blog) is invisible. Do you have any tips to check if people are seeing your post?
Aaaghhh question spam again I'm so sorry
Hey it's not spam!! Honestly it brightens my day whenever anyone comments or comes to me with questions, so please don't worry :)
DeleteHmm.. 9 days is a longer amount of time, so I don't think it's your layout that's the main cause. I will say that from the blogs I've seen, the ones that have a simple one-post-at-a-time layout tend to get the most comments and reader interaction, but I could be very very wrong about that being a fact. I still don't think it's your new layout affecting your views– the changes you've made to your blog look really nice.
But in regards to your contest post– it isn't invisible, but what might possibly help people see it better is if you re-made the "Wild's Fall Contest Prep" post banner as a square so people can read the whole thing while looking at your home page?
Most likely though, it could be that it's just your readers going back to school around this time, so as everyone's getting adjusted to their new schedules, they might have less time. I know personally that I haven't entered your contest or been that active in general for that reason ^^;
I do have a couple of tips for you:
First– I know you're on CS, so I think you might have more luck reaching people if you host your contest over there. I'm sure there's a branch of the Oekaki board or something where you could advertise something like that.
Second, another CS related tip! If you're comfortable with this, maybe adding a link to your art blog in your CS signature could get more people visiting?
Though all in all, I try not to worry too much about views. Sometimes they drop, sometimes they rise, and just because there's a lull in visits now doesn't mean there won't be a lot more later. Also– pageview counts aren't 100% accurate! Sometimes they don't pick up when someone visits, and sometimes some of the views might actually be from bots or crawlers.
I wish you luck! I love the idea behind your contest, and I really hope you get some people entering soon <3
Hey Doomy! I just submitted my work. I’m not the best artist, so I made up for it by making her super detailed and included a list about her. I really hope you like her- I worked super hard day and night on Winter. I’m so sorry it was late, I thought the deadline was later, so I’m so thankful your accepting late entries. I really hope you like her, this little fox means a lot to me already. Thanks! Blackstanford3
ReplyDeleteWhew, I'm glad I happened to be away this weekend because I really didn't wanna miss anyone's entry. Thanks so much for entering!!!
DeleteNo problem! Thanks for hosting! 🙃
