Hey Jammers! Just today, it seems we got an update on Animal Jam Classic:
The Conservation Museum is actually one of my favorite rooms in Jamaa. It's just so peaceful there...
Aaaand, last but not least, (but probably out of order), a little fun fact about Animal Jam during beta.
AJHQ seriously didn't do much of anything to celebrate 10 years of AJ, but of course there could be a variety of reasons for that. Namely, the current pandemic making everyone's jobs more difficult, and you can't blame anyone for that.
Particularly, it seems like there hasn't been enough support for the people who design new items. If you look at the newer items coming out, they're all pretty flat and basic, some even looking like a few bits of clip art stitched together:
I wonder if some people were laid off, or if the people designing items are just overworked or struggling. I know how that is.
I'm personally of the opinion that it's ok if AJHQ stops doing the new-item-every-day thing if they just redirect that work towards new, better updates.
Or AJHQ can just go through their giant list of unreleased items and figure out something cool to do with them:
This is the E-bookshelf, also known as the Minibookshelf. Presumably meant to be a bookshelf where you can read the various minibooks found in the Chamber of Knowledge, all from the comfort of your den. I posted about this some time ago, but I thought I'd bring it up again!
Even if that feature wasn't specifically embedded into this item, it's a really cute looking item that should seriously be released soon! Perhaps AJHQ can give it a role in their Playing For The Planet initiative, and have it store new minibooks about the environment.
All of these underwhelming new items make me wonder why AJHQ is releasing them while sitting on a treasure trove of really cool unreleased designs. You can view some more here on the Animal Jam Wiki.

Ten whole years of Animal Jam... that's a big deal.
In my view, there have been a lot of steps forward, but also a lot of steps back. Such is the history of an influential game.
Moving forward, I feel like the most important thing for Wildworks to do is to remember that their games mean more than items to most people who play them.
These games are about community, especially during this pandemic where kids have to unfortunately distance themselves from friends for safety. What can be done to maintain a more positive community environment?
These games are about creativity, not just of the players themselves with Masterpieces, but of the people who work on the games, too. If ideas are running low, why not use some of the many suggestions that pour in every day from Jammers?
And most importantly, in my view... these games are about animals. They should strive to bridge the gap between kids and this natural world they inhabit. I know it's possible, it happened for me in the earlier years of AJ, but since then Wildworks seems to have strayed away from this. How can Wildworks incorporate more nature into what they create?
I'm planning on putting a poll on the sidebar about an idea I have... stay tuned.
See you in Jamaa!

P.S: Its my plushie's bday today XD
About the lack of updates on Animal Jam Classic (that look like they had effort put into them)... honestly it's just been extremely upsetting to me, to the point where I'm banging my head against my desk and then I have to go to bed early because I got a headache. You know what's more infuriating though? The fact that in Play Wild, there's a sign in Jamaa Township that says 10 years! And on the Daily Explorer, they had a video celebrating 10 years of Animal Jam - but pretty much only Play Wild was featured in it.
ReplyDeleteLast I checked, Animal Jam PLAY WILD turned FIVE this year, and Animal Jam "CLASSIC" turned TEN this year. And Animal Jam PLAY WILD got a better update. A way better update. They just added a new pet and a new animal I think. Makes me want to slam my head onto my desk again.
And the cake! AJPW got an original cake! And AJPC got a slightly enlarged 6th birthday cake with a 10 on top of it and a couple pieces of candle clipart glued onto it! (The expansion also looks suspiciously like last year's.) And so, WHY, AJHQ, if you are reading this, have you been treating ANIMAL JAM PLAY WILD like it's turning 10?! Why?
What I'm thinking is that, if you can spend this much effort on Animal Jam Play Wild... why can't you do it on AJPC? Isn't it... easier? 2D is easier than 3D, in my opinion.
There was literally nothing in the post about Play Wild but looks like I just needed somewhere to put all these thoughts, and why not the perfect place for ranting? :D especially when there's stuff about how it doesn't feel like 10 years of Animal Jam Classic.
But if it's really just the pandemic, then I can't blame AJHQ. They're doing their best!
About those unreleased items... I wish they'd do something about those, since I kind of want them in the game...! Especially the E-bookshelf. There's a plant on there.
And those jammer suggestions? I've read a few on the Daily Explorer comments, and they sound cool! I agree with you, if AJHQ is truly running out of ideas, just take a look at the things us jammers say. I wonder, has anyone else been spamming "new adventure" or "more plant stuff"?

Yeah, the '10 years of AJ' on Play Wild has felt kinda backhanded >.<
DeleteYou know I have a half-theory about why AJHQ made the switch to making Play Wild their main game. You might recall that Adobe Flash will stop working this year, so AJ switched to downloadable apps. AJPW can be downloaded onto any device, but AJ Classic can't be downloaded onto Chromebooks. At first I thought that AJHQ just didn't want to make AJ Classic downloadable for Chromebook, but I just thought of another possibility–
What if AJHQ knew they couldn't make AJ Classic downloadable for Chromebook, but they could make AJPW available for Chromebook, so they started emphasizing AJPW instead?
--WAIT A MINUTE NEVERMIND. According to the FAQ, NEITHER AJ Classic or AJPW can be downloaded on a Chromebook. I feel like something changed because I remember that only AJ Classic couldn't be downloaded on Chromebooks, or maybe I'm misremembering... hmm..
It's still a mystery.
I think you're right! Chromebooks are becoming more and more popular because of school and stuff (I just started my school year) so of course more kids, students, basically anyone in the "age range" of AJ is using a chromebook.
DeleteHowever, I did read somewhere that chromebooks released after January 2019 (did I remember that right...?) have Google Play. And Google Play has AJPW downloadable on it. So of COURSE AJHQ would switch to the game that more people can play.
But of course they almost completely abandon the game that started it all, and made AJPW possible.
