Riddle Contest Day 4: Coral Canyons!

Hey Jammers! Welcome to another day of fun riddles. 

If you're new to the party, here's what this Riddle Contest is all about: Every day of the contest will focus on one land in Jamaa. There will be a riddle about one animal from that land's Journey Book, and it will be your job to guess which one it is!

Whoever answers the most riddles correctly will win a FREE CUSTOM MASTERPIECE! 

It would be in your best interest to answer every riddle to give you a better chance. Even if you haven't answered the previous riddles yet, you can answer them any time up until the end of the contest on April 22nd.

Today, we will be venturing out onto the rocky cliffs of Coral Canyons...

The land is a dusty warm color peppered with the dark green foliage of desert plants. In a place where rain is scarce, each drop collected is quickly stored away in each plant, making their leaves thick with internal water. You look through them curiously, finding a few insects resting in their shade. After gazing at them awhile, you decide to look around.

Red stone shaped wind is arched into bridges across the landscape. The same rock carries a stream of fresh water into a misty waterfall that thunders down into a deep depression. You walk up the stairs behind it and stare out through the glassy wall of water. 

"Psst..."

You think you hear something, but the waterfall is so loud you can't tell.

"PSST... hey" 

You're certain the sound came from behind you rather than the waterfall in front. You whip around and see a small thicket of leaves.

"Hi..."

That voice was definitely coming from the leaves. You begin walking over to it quickly, but then--

"EEK! NOT SO CLOSE!"

You jump back, startled. "Sh-show yourself!" you call nervously.

The voice responded, a little calmer,"Only if you can guess what I am, but I don't think you can..." 

"Can you give me a hint?"

"Alright, fine," the voice sighed, "here's a riddle...:

"You hear my sound and you turn around,

but I'm the one who's afraid!"

Riddle Contest Day 3: Crystal Sands!

Hey Jammers! I'm really sorry that this post has been late for two days in a row. On Wednesday, I genuinely had some time-consuming school work to do, but yesterday I just flat-out forgot.

However, because today is the first day of Spring Break for me (yay!!!), you can expect the remainder of this contest's posts to go by smoothly and on-time.

Today, our journey through Jamaa takes us to the warm Crystal Sands...

(If you want, you can skip the story and go straight to the riddle. It's at the bottom in big bold letters.)

Walking through the tunnel, the earth beneath you transitions from permafrost to warmer and warmer soil as you feel Mt. Shiveer's icy grip begin to diminish. You gradually see the cave's exit grow brighter and you breathe a sigh of relief when you reach the end.

The land that comes into view as you peek through the opening is one of vibrant beauty. The sky is a blazing blue, decorated with billowing clouds and the tall crowns of the warm green palm trees that populate the earth. You feel almost dizzy with joy!

You happily explore the beach, running up and down the sands, observing tide pools, and sliding down slides while splashing water, just generally having a fun time.

After a long while, you stop by a shelf of rock to finally sit down and relax. The distant, sandy sound of drums seems to have a hypnotic effect on you. All you can think about is the sand, the water, and the brilliant green leaves that sway in the breeze and cast shade over your head.

You're so relaxed that it takes you more than a moment to notice the parrot who has landed next to you.

"Hello," he says, a little shyly. His red and blue plumage glistens in the sunshine.

You're a little startled to see the parrot, but happy that you now have someone to share the wonderful day with. "Hi! What's your name?" you ask. 

"I'm Azul, but you're probably a little more familiar with my friend, Captain Melville." 

You confusedly search your memory for that name, Captain Melville, until it hits you in all its obviousness. "Captain Melville's Juice Hut! That's so cool that you know him. Why do I never see him in the Juice Hut?"

Azul delicately brushes through his feathers with his beak. "He comes sometimes, but he spends most of his time on the high seas. Even though he doesn't arrive often, he knows Crystal Sands and all its denizens very well. Want to hear a riddle that Melville told me once? It's about a certain creature who lives here."

"Bring it on, I love riddles!" you reply.

Azul tells you:

"This animal dies on the shore

and lives in the sea,

he gains a growth ring each year,

but he isn't a tree."

I saw all your answers to the Sarepia Forest riddle, and a good majority of you got it right! Well get ready to enter Level 2, because this next one will be a little harder.

Our journey now brings us to the snowy peaks of Mt. Shiveer...

After bidding farewell to the magic salamander, you pass through Sarepia's canopies into cold tundra. You instantly begin shivering.
You consider going into the Hot Cocoa Hut and calling it a day, but the curiosity of adventure pushes you on. 

You walk across snow, ice, and permafrost. Your eyes linger on the mysterious ice cave, but alas, it was blocked up. Maybe one day, its secrets would be revealed...

Searching high and low for discovery, hiking as far you could go up the mountain, you become more and more aware of how cold you are. The Hot Cocoa Hut looks more and more inviting. 

'I don't know how long I can go on without freezing...' you think to yourself bitterly. 

Before you turn around, you come across a large stone cave entrance with unusually warm air wafting out from inside. You notice small sign with an image of the Crystal Sands juice hut pointed into the cave's depths.

'Of course! I can skip Mt. Shiveer and continue my adventure in the comfortable warmth of Crystal Sands!' 

You're just about to run right into the cave when you notice the large, heavy boulder blocking the entrance. 

You sigh, defeated. "Aww, I guess I can't get through."

All of a sudden, three voices echo out in unison from behind the boulder! 

"Are you a hunter?" 

You're taken aback. You thought you were alone. "W-what?"

"WE'LL ASK YOU AGAIN, ARE YOU A HUNTER?" The voices called back louder.

"Heavens, no! I'm just a very cold explorer trying to make their way through the tunnel to Crystal Sands," you explain, teeth chattering. "Could you by chance move this boulder out of the way so that I may pass?"

It is quiet for a moment. You think you hear the voices behind the rock whispering.

"Fine. You may pass, but only if you can guess what we are from a single riddle." 

"What's your riddle?" you ask, shivering as a particularly harsh wind blows by.

One voice tells you:

"I am blue and green. My friend here is brown and white. My other friend is red. What are we?"

Riddle Contest Day 1: Sarepia Forest!

Hey Jammers! Welcome to Day One of Animal Jam Stream's Journey Book Riddle Contest. 

Throughout this contest, we'll be hiking all over Jamaa's lands and solving riddles to figure out the identities of some Journey Book animals. Whoever guesses most riddles correctly will win a custom Masterpiece!

We're starting off our journey in the beloved and mysterious Sarepia Forest, the leafy home of the magic fire pit, the Flag Shop, and many, many clans.

You enter the natural woodland clearing through the Township path. As you look around and take in the atmosphere, you think to yourself how apart this place is from the lively noise of Jamaa Township. But this forest is full of life, too, in its own quiet way...

You are about to sit down before the warm fire pit when you notice a sudden movement about the flames. You look a little closer, keeping a safe distance from the embers, of course. The fire is still for a moment, and you begin to wonder if your eyes are just playing tricks on you--

And a six-legged salamander springs up from the flames!

"Hey there, adventurer! I'm a magic salamander! What brings you to Sarepia Forest?" asks the salamander, hovering above the fire. 

You can't believe your eyes! A six-legged flying salamander who's resistant to fire! For a moment, all you can do is silently gawk.

"Hey buddy, you okay?" the red-spotted salamander asks, turning quizzically.

You manage to break out of your stupor enough to awkwardly cough out a few words. "Uh... yeah. I'm good. It's just.... six legs!"

The salamander shrugged midair. "I guess it's just not every day that you see a magic salamander. Hey, I have a riddle I've been working on! Wanna try to solve it?"

"Sure! Riddles are fun," you reply, your eyes lighting up with wonder.

The salamander smiles happily. "Here goes!" he says, and tells you the riddle:

"Out of all the creatures in Sarepia Forest, who has gills but does not swim?"
