The History of AJ Blogging (pt.2)
You know if some random person who knows nothing about Animal Jam were to stumble on this post, they would probably think they just discovered the most obscure subject ever XD
I have no idea how long this series is going to be, but I guess my goal is to showcase all the blogs I can remember that meant something to me. Let me know in the comments if you remember any as well! :D
To start off, here's a pretty well-known one:
This is not how the blog looks now– I used the Wayback Machine to try to find how the blog looked as I remembered discovering it. Like many AJ bloggers, of course, LoveLost changed the background seasonally. Maybe I should do something like that to keep with the tradition... Hmm...
LoveLost goes by a billion million names but I'm just going to say LoveLost because thats the name I like the most, I think.
If you know anything about the heyday of AJ blogging, you'll know about Animal Jam Flash. It started around the same time as Animal Jam Spirit, and it was known as having a huge collection of unreleased/glitch item/feature pictures (which it still does, for reference). I think even the Animal Jam Wiki has used LoveLost's images (whether they had permission is dubious lol)
Here's something from 2011 that you've probably never seen before:
Weird raspberry eye things. Here's the link to the original post.
LoveLost's Animal Jam Flash means a lot to me. Before I had my blog, I was a dedicated commenter and I signed all my comments with "~DoomyPanda" and used way too many :3 emoticons. Once I made my blog, LoveLost promoted it in a link at the bottom of a then-recent post and really helped me attract readers. I'm very grateful for that.
That blog is basically inactive, with some spotty posts every year or so, but I really hope LoveLost is doing ok. I hope all the past AJ bloggers are doing ok, because to be honest when some quit my paranoid brain thought they died lol
Oh! Before I forget, important side note: LoveLost invented the idea of a plushie story blog with her tale of Breadstick the Croc.
This next blog is a little less well-known:
The layout of the Animal Jam Rapids has gone completely unchanged since it was mysteriously abandoned after a normal daily post.
At the time, this was actually my favorite blog to read. Trickertreee was a really positive/friendly person and it seemed his personality was just as bright and colorful as his blog's layout!
Aside from daily posts, TT had a large archive of stories, AJ graphics, and newspaper screenshots on some separate linked blogs. Looking back at them now, they're actually still a great resource
TT's story archive (Tales of Jamaa) is, of course, inactive, but it makes me happy to this day. I hope it never gets taken down:
Here's something from there that made me smile:
:')
I think I'll talk about two blogs per post in this series because it seems that's all I have energy for. Expect the next one in a day or two.
But before I go, I keep having this thought: Why did things on Animal Jam have to change for the worse? I still love Jamaa, but there have been many bad decisions by AJHQ, artistic, business, and update-wise, that have eaten away at the game's integrity. If you've read at least one of my many rants, you know what I'm talking about.
With Animal Jam Stream, I try to do what I can to rekindle the community on Animal Jam. A ton of people play AJ, but we are more fragmented than we used to be.
Sometimes though, I feel like I can't do enough to help make the change we need. Jamaa needs you guys, too.
Something that inspires me, though, is Club Penguin Rewritten. If you're not aware, after Club Penguin shut down, some fans put together a new playable version of Club Penguin that is just like the original and has a big community behind it– the catch is, it's just like the original in its heyday of 2006-2010
Even though I have zero coding knowledge and zero time for a project like that, I still wonder: what would happen if I made a version of AJ that was just like it was in 2012? It's a fantasy, of course, it's way too hard for me, I'm already too busy, and it's probably against the rules (though somehow CP Rewritten is legal). Besides, I'd much rather be a player of a game than a developer/moderator.
For now I'm just hoping with all my heart that AJHQ remembers what their game is all about: conservation, natural science, friends, and creativity.

Heyyo! I love it when you guys comment. I'm always checking for more, so even if you comment on an older post I'll definitely see it and try to respond. :)
Before you comment, of course, here are some basic things to remember:
-Don't be mean on purpose.
-Keep the comments appropriate for all ages. This is an Animal Jam blog.
-No spam, please! That means no comments just saying "buddy me im animaljam123" or "hi", just add a little more than that.
-Rants/long comments totally encouraged! You don't have to apologize for a long comment, I love reading them xD
-*NEW!* Please be safe about the personal information you share here, and on the internet in general. Just like AJ's in-game safety guidelines, don't share your real name, photos of yourself, phone number, address, email, or age. Always turn to a trusted adult if you're unsure about something.
Pretty easy rules. Nothing to stress about. As long as you follow them, you can say whatever you want!
Thanks for reading! C(o.o)D
P.S. That's a bear emoticon up there. ^
Im really liking this series so far Doomy! It's kinda nice to take a trip down AJ Blogging Community memory lane with all the blogs. This is gonna be quite a long series though as there is so many AJ blogs if you come to think of it. Of course not as large as youtube and most are discontinued but.... Its a good thing we still have a small community that in my opinion this year is actually slowly growing again :D
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'll go over all of the blogs I know, but I'll do my best. I'm mostly planning on focusing on blogs from the "golden age of AJ blogging"
DeleteAlso, I miss the animal jam flash. I called lovelost, Mel, as she switched her user to Meloetta185, or something similar. I would also call her Melly. Had a small friend group on AJ with her at a time, before she quit.
ReplyDeleteBack in ye olden days of summer 2012, I met a close AJ friend ElephantWolf at an extremely crowded den party LoveLost was having. They've moved on from AJ now and I haven't been in contact w/ them for years, but I'm very grateful how they stuck around and supported me and this blog in its early days :)
DeleteI thought AJ Flash was written by someone along the names of Moeletta or something? Might be one of their aliases?
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's that Animal Jam had to change for the worse.
They were probably gathering statistics from players.
You know? That question they made one answer when making an account? "How old are you?" - they probably use that as a means to do statistics. What is the average age? Younger children with no fascination to animals (maybe using AJ as a means to socialise or dress up characters) would not be interested in information dumps. I think this is why there are less updates now in the Conservation Museum. They don't want to waste too much time on something no one would look at.
Premium currency is used by many, many games to get more cash back. AJHQ uses the same tactic to get money, and bundles that lets them from purchasing more Sapphires for less also appeal to people. Especially people who could afford to spend money.
Compared to the monthly subscription item reward thing, the current definitely is more interesting to most. A bundle! I'm saving! That's their mindset.
Also it helps to look cool to have the first of it compared to others'!
Update-wise, it's not that they can't update... AJHQ has been running since 2010- that's almost ten whole years now! I can't believe I'm playing this game for so long... Through the years, AJHQ added more and more features- parties, adventures, pets, etc., but there's only so much they can do. They'll run dry out of ideas at the end of the day. These old functions become boring.
Yes. They can add new parties. Why don't they?
Why make new parties when you can "recycle" it and the hype is still there?
Yes. They can make new adventures.
I'd like to believe they still are, we just have to wait.
Especially it seems like we have a little storyline going on...
Focusing on the story line can be taxing on AJHQ's end, but also for new Jammers. What's going on? What's happening? I believe this is why stories are locked to adventures, so Jammers can go through them one by one, eliminating Alphas almost instantly from the game aside from adventures.
I don't remember if there's anything else I wanted to add. It's getting pretty late here... so I'll end it off here on my opinion.
Yeah, Meloetta(insert numbers) is one of their users!
DeleteI agree with you that there are a ton of features... but I think there's so much more that AJHQ isn't paying attention to. Jammers come up with a ton of original ideas, suggest them to AJHQ, and even though they get the "Thanks for the feedback!" message, none are used and we have Liza on a cereal box.
It doesn't sound like a lack of ideas, it seems like at this point Wildworks has so many games they're working on they don't prioritize AJ as much, and in turn we get barely subpar updates
But I get what you're saying about age demographics. Still though, what gave AJ its longevity for me were the deeper aspects of it. I feel like games where you just dress up and socialize are usually very short lived
DeleteDidn't clark say we were suppose to get better updates this year?
DeleteYeah :\
DeleteI'm kind of used to being ignored by customer help haha so when feedbacks aren't taken in I guess now I just shrug it off.
DeleteOh right, that's true! They have a lot of games now! AJ and PW are different and all that, updates here and there...
Games where you just dress up and socialized are usually short lived... for the user.
The game itself grows though once there's already enough popularity and they can milk off it.
Just like gacha games!
Even if Clark said we're supposed to get better updates, I'm still skeptical haha-
Aaaaaa, sorry I can't help you with the Beta Vampire Mask. I don't know much about member rares, but I wish you luck in finding more

anyone know what happened to the animal jam flash?
ReplyDeleteHI IM LOOKING FOR HER BLOGSPOT I WAS A BIG FAN OF THE BLOG
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody have a way of contacting Mayksufi/LoveLost/Mel? I'd love to read AJF again just to take a trip down memory lane and see how she's doing. I used to keep up with her other personal blog but I've completely lost contact and I'm so bummed. Please help if anybody can.
ReplyDeleteHey those of you asking about LoveLost/Mayksufi - she had a personal blog a while ago and I got back in contact with her. She had some really bad experiences with Animal Jam and was trying to distance herself from it. In the end I guess she just decided to remove her work from the internet all together. I wish she left the blog up but the most important thing is her mental health, and she really just doesn't want to think about Animal Jam anymore unfortunately. If you want to respond to this comment do it on my blog because I probably won't see it here btw
ReplyDeleteHey Pumaa,
DeleteThanks for the update. It was kinda funny to me that others were also looking for old bloggers.
I was pretty into AJ as a kid, but there was something about the blogs that I felt even more connected with. It's just very nostalgic for me, and I randomly remember and check up on old blogs every few years.
Mayksufi and Kinyonga were my favourite bloggers and I kept up to date on their post-AJ blogs for a bit, too. I'm sorry to hear about your update about Mayksufi, but I hope they're doing better. Just wanna let them know that their blog posts would always make me smile and get me excited for AJ things when I was a kid.
If anybody else is college-age now too and wants to start a discord for old AJ blog fans, lmk lol. It's cool to me that others are also nostalgic about this and still check sometimes.
im looking for mel too. havent been able to contact her for 2 or 3 years now. no replies from her personal email. i loved her so much, i hope she's okay, maybe in a better place now.
